I have intensively trained in order to help people navigate some of the most complex parts of their lives. I have additional graduate training in sex therapy and trauma counseling at both the masters and doctorate level. At the post-graduate level, I have pursued further training in sex addictions treatment and received trauma-informed supervision and consultation so that I can work with those dealing with complex-trauma and addictive sexual behaviors. My doctoral research focused on male experiences and masculinity.

Professional Development

Academic training

I hold a BA in Theology, a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy, and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. I am the Assistant Dean of the School of Counseling, an Assistant Professor of Counseling, and a member of the clinical training faculty at Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, GA.

Clinical experience

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been in private practice for five years. I work primarily with men who have traumatic histories, are struggling with overcoming sexually addictive behaviors, sexual identity issues, and men who are HIV+ and learning to navigate life after receiving their diagnosis.

Therapy Approaches

Person-Centered Psychotherapy

Person-centered therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) provides clients with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy is a form of counseling that views people as separate from their problems. This allows clients to get some distance from the issue to see how it might actually be helping them, or protecting them, more than it is hurting them.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by interrogating and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs.
